There was a time, not long ago, that Burbank High was a beautiful building without air conditioning. Today the students and staff study and work in crisp cool air leading up to the summer heat. They also start off Septembers in a refreshing environment. In 2002, Burbank Unified School District budgeted for a complete overhaul of non-air conditioned campuses throughout the city.

The $165 million dollar air conditioning phase involved either repairing outdated and non-working Burbank systems with renovated air conditioners or installing brand new systems. Most Burbank High Schools, middle schools, and elementary schools, now have functioning air conditioning units.

Studies have shown a direct correlation between an air conditioned classrooms and the productivity of students. A student’s energy and concentration levels will rise in a comfortable environment, as will their attendance. Burbank students have missed fewer days since the introduction of the upgraded air conditioners.
