Van Nuys Gets Summer Conservation Tips
Van Nuys homeowners received the Home Warranty Association of California (HWAC) checklist provided to help residents become more energy conscious and preserve their operating systems.

The most critical element on the list is air conditioning maintenance. HWAC calls for Van Nuys homeowners, and those living throughout the San Fernando Valley, to set their thermostats at 78 degrees during the summer months. The association recommends staying cool and comfortable at the highest possible temperature. On the flip side, winter thermostat gauges should be set at 70 degrees.

Upkeep on air conditioning units is imperative. Annual service is advised. HWAC also recommends either cleaning or replacing air conditioning filters monthly.

Some simple suggestions for in-home summer cooling include drawing the drapes or blinds during the peak hot hours of the day. By minimizing the use of heat-generated appliances, houses will stay cooler longer.

If for some reason, the air coming out of the vents does not seem cool enough, check the air filters, the registers, and thermostat settings. Technicians can also aid in any air conditioning system questions.
